Insurance – it’s a word that draws a yawn from most of us ….. (and previously me also, I have to admit!) Having spent seven years at Burke Britton though, insurance is something that I have come to love, fear and admire.
I don’t think anyone ever wants to be in the position where you have to use your personal insurance, but when unforeseen life events take place it’s important to have the cover to make sure you’re in the best position possible at that time.
Over my time here at Burke Britton I have assisted many clients with insurance claims and currently working on several – ranging from Death Claims to Income Protection, Trauma and Total and Permanent Disablement cover.
For me, the most important insurance claims I assist with are the Income Protection, Trauma and TPD claims. To be able to tell clients who are struggling with health issues (physical or mental) that they don’t need to worry about the financial side of things is the best feeling I can get at work. It’s what drives me to keep following up the insurance companies, providing them the additional information that may be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful claim.
Whenever I hear of a friend or family member cancelling their insurance, it literally sends a shiver down my spine. I don’t think many people realise the process that re-applying for adequate, suitable cover can involve and how important it is to think ahead about your future needs and circumstances.
I think the strangest thing I have heard from a client would be their ‘argument’ that they’ve had life insurance and been paying premiums for years. Yes, they’ve understood their life has been covered during that period – but they’ve never had to USE the insurance – so do they really need it?! That blew my mind, it would be like telling someone not to have car insurance but keep driving around just because they haven’t had a crash yet!
Take the “boring” step – review or alter your insurances to ensure you have the right cover and sleep easier at night. This, coming from previously possibly the worst advocator of insurance that there was!
